Suite snapshot

The 1,114 sq ft basement suite is yours for the stay: a bedroom with a walk-in closet, a spacious lounge, a private bathroom with shower, a kitchenette (not a full kitchen) and a laundry room with washer and dryer (the host also uses it on weekends, for up to 4 hours). Parking

If you are driving, park on the left side of the driveway. Share your ETA and vehicle details in the booking channel so we can keep the spot clear. Exact street address is shared after booking confirmation — we publish Frame Lake South, Yellowknife only on this site.

No shoes indoors — leave them in the mud room
Switch off lights and appliances when you leave; report damage promptly

HomePod mini speakers in the suite support Siri for music and simple climate questions. If you sign in to any personal app on the TV, please sign out before you leave.

Getting around

Nearby on foot: North Chocolate (about 3 minutes), Starbucks and Coyote’s Family Steakhouse (about 5), Copperhouse Eatery & Lounge and McDonald’s (about 6), Your Independent Grocer (about 8), Freshslice Pizza (about 9) and Tim Hortons (about 12). Times are approximate; allow longer on icy sidewalks. Most other everyday places are within about 5 km. Yellowknife does not rely on major rideshare apps — taxis are the usual on-demand option, and guests can hire a rental car at the airport for more independence.

Prefer taxi apps. Many international guests cannot dial local numbers; download apps over suite Wi‑Fi (login via your booking channel).

You can also hire a vehicle (rental car) in Yellowknife — desks at YZF include Budget, Hertz, and National; book ahead in peak season. Also useful: Yellowknife Transit (typically about 7:00 a.m.–7:45 p.m. Mon–Sat; no Sunday/statutory service — confirm current hours) and the YZF taxi list.

See & do

Highlights guests ask about most — confirm seasonal hours and trail conditions before you go. We’re an aurora basecamp (place to stay); we don’t promise lights from suite windows. Peak season is roughly mid-November to early April; clear nights around 10 p.m.–2 a.m. are often best — check Astronomy North and cloud cover, then get away from city lights on a licensed tour or a careful self-drive. Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre

Free territorial museum on Frame Lake — Indigenous cultures, northern history, mining and aviation. Pair with a Frame Lake Trail walk. Hours: pwnhc.ca/visit (typically closed Mondays — confirm before you go).

Cameron Falls & Ramparts

Short hike to the falls via Cameron River Crossing or Hidden Lake Territorial Park on the Ingraham Trail. Trail notes: BorealBase.

Dettah ice road (seasonal)

Ice road across Great Slave Lake to the Yellowknives Dene community of Dettah — open only once ice is thick enough (typically mid/late winter; closes in spring). Check DriveNWT and @GNWT_INF before you go. Never drive on ice that is not officially open. Planning: Extraordinary YK · ice road tours.

Dog sledding

Book licensed operators via the Spectacular NWT directory — listings include Beck’s Kennels and Traditional Dogsledding Experience. Reserve early in peak aurora season.

Folk on the Rocks

Yellowknife’s signature outdoor music festival at Long Lake — next published dates July 15–18, 2027. Confirm closer to the weekend on the official site before you plan around it.

Snowking’s Winter Festival

Snow castle and winter events on Great Slave Lake ice — published window March 1–28, 2027 (confirm schedule). Also listed on Spectacular NWT. More events: events directory.

Winter packing (aurora nights)

Dec–Feb daily averages at Yellowknife Airport are about −22 to −26 °C (Environment and Climate Change Canada 1991–2020 normals), with colder nights common — plan for −30 °C and below when standing outside. Pack insulated boots, toque, warm mitts, scarf, and a serious parka. Keep phone and camera batteries warm inside your coat. If you rent a car, ask for a plug-in / block heater.
